Baloch Solidarity Committee leader Dr. Mahrang Baloch has been included in Time magazine’s ‘2024 Time 100 Next’ list for ‘peacefully advocating for Baloch rights’.
The list includes 100 young people, including artists, athletes, and rights activists.
The magazine says the list aims to ‘recognize that leadership isn’t what it used to be’.
The magazine selected Dr Mah Rang for his peaceful struggle for rights as well as the December 2023 Islamabad March.
Where she and hundreds of women marched for ‘justice for their husbands, sons and brothers’.
In a Facebook post following the announcement, Dr. Mahrang wrote, “I am extremely honored and delighted to be included in TIME’s 100 Emerging World Leaders.”
He further wrote ‘I dedicate this honor to all the Baloch women human rights defenders and the families of the victims of enforced disappearances.’
It may be recalled that Dr. Mahrang Baloch came into the limelight when she started leading protests after her father, Ghaffar Longo, went missing outside a hospital in Karachi in December 2009.
