LHC: Man Sets Himself Ablaze Over Delayed Justice

Asif Javed, a resident of Khanewal, set himself on fire after the Lahore High Court did not decide the case for 5 years. Rescue teams immediately reached the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital.(Man Sets Himself Ablaze)

Case details
Asif Javed was dismissed from his job by a private company in 2016. In 2019, the Labor Court declared his dismissal null and void and ordered his reinstatement, but the private company challenged this decision in the National Industrial Relations Commission, where his appeal was dismissed.

Court proceedings
The case has been pending in the Lahore High Court since 2020, and the private company filed an appeal in the High Court in December 2020.

Today, the Lahore High Court set April 8 as the next date after hearing the case, due to which Asif Javed, distraught, set himself on fire.

Need for reforms in the justice system
It may be recalled that the Federal Law Minister had said in June last year that the government and parliament were bringing reforms in the judicial system so that the decisions of cases could be announced quickly.

He said that the suggestions of bar councils and bar associations would be incorporated to improve the justice system.

This incident highlights the seriousness of the delays in the judicial system and reinforces the need for cases to be decided as soon as possible to ensure the provision of justice to citizens.
