The Lahore High Court has declared the success notification of PML-N MNA from NA-81, Gujranwala void on the plea of rival PTI candidate, Bilal Ijaz. The high court’s Justice Shahid Karim granted the petition of the PTI candidate against the election commission’s decision. The bench questioned how the election commission could neglect the Supreme Court’s decision and observed that neglecting the apex court’s verdict is contempt.
The court also questioned how the election commission could intervene after completing the election process. In his petition, PTI candidate Bilal Ijaz said that he won in the February 08 election with over 7,000 votes lead.
In the recounting process, PML-N candidate Azhar Qayyum Nahra was declared the winner with a margin of 3,100 votes. Bilal Ijaz claimed that over 10,000 votes of the petitioner were discarded during the recounting process. He pleaded to the court to declare the recounting order of the ECP null and void, arguing that the election commission could not order recounting after the tribunal’s constitution
