Azam Nazeer Tarar, the federal minister for law and justice, presided over a crucial interministerial committee meeting to talk about the Ministry of Interior’s 2002 Remission Policy.
Along with officials from the Home Departments of Punjab, Sindh, and KPK, representatives from the Ministries of Law and Justice, Interior, Poverty Alleviation, and Social Safety also attended the conference.
Participants shared their legal viewpoints and recommendations for enhancing the remission policy 2002 at the meeting. The Law Minister emphasized the need for a more open and reformative attitude, urged participants to write down their proposals, and promised to assist them with any legal questions.
The committee also spoke about the need for provincial prison changes. Although the Supreme Court upheld the classification system in the current policy, it was noted that this did not prevent the executive from reviewing and changing the policy to make it more beneficial and benevolent in order to give those who wished to repent and reform a chance.
At the end of the discussion, everyone agreed that adjustments must be made in order to help those who really need them and to guarantee a just and fair remission system.
