A Lahore resident, Farhan Asif, has had his physical remand extended for an additional four days by a district court, following allegations of his involvement in spreading disinformation that allegedly incited recent anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant riots in the UK.
Asif was initially detained by Lahore police and later transferred to the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime wing for further investigation. The FIA presented Asif before a magistrate, requesting an extension of his remand to continue probing his role in the incident. He is accused of uploading a misleading news article on the Channel3Now website, which reportedly fueled tensions leading to the riots.
The court had previously granted the FIA one-day physical custody of Asif for preliminary investigation.
