Due to the intense heat that has been plaguing the province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced on Sunday the start of summer vacations and revised school hours.
The province’s schools will now open at 7 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. due to the time change. Primary through middle and secondary schools will close at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
The intense heat has forced a change in the school schedule, according to the provincial education department. In addition, the government declared that primary schools will be closed from June 1 to August 31 during the summer.
The Education Department states that while schools in cooler climates will have summer vacations from July 1 to August 31, middle, high, and higher secondary schools will observe holidays from June 15 to August 31.
The announcement by the KP government comes after Punjab decided to give schools a seven-day holiday because of the intense heat.
The holidays were announced by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar in a post on X. The minister distributed a notice informing everyone that from May 25 to May 31, all public and private schools would be closed.
We have decided to give the holidays starting this week, he said, taking into account the opinions of the parents and the severity of the weather.
The government also changed the hours that schools are open from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday through Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Fridays.
However, the All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association (APPSMA), which requested authorization to allow the schools to operate between 7am and 10am from June 1 to June 15, rejected the provincial government’s announcement of summer vacations in the province from June 1 to August 14.
The announcement that the intermediate exams would be postponed for five days by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) came next.
