Kartarpur Corridor Flooded, Over 100 People Rescued

Narowal (Staff Report) – The Ravi River’s floodwaters submerged the Kartarpur Corridor, including Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, leaving more than 100 people stranded. Officials confirmed that all trapped individuals have been successfully rescued.

According to Saifullah Khokar, head of the Kartarpur Corridor Project Management Unit, the entire complex was inundated. Rescues were carried out using boats and a helicopter.

Narowal Deputy Commissioner Hasan Raza said hundreds of residents were also evacuated after India released water into the Ravi River, causing its flow to exceed the 150,000 cusecs capacity and reach 155,000 cusecs at Kot Nain in Shakargarh tehsil.

Heavy rains and overflow from drains in Auj, Bayan, and Dek worsened the situation, inundating villages and farmland, forcing people to migrate to safer areas. Thousands of acres of crops, including rice and animal fodder, were destroyed.

Across Punjab, nearly 200,000 people have so far been evacuated from flood-affected areas to safe locations.
