On Saturday morning, Karachi Express had a mechanical malfunction that almost cost it. Details indicate that a technical issue around Hyderabad prevented the Karachi Express, which was traveling from Karachi to Lahore, from coming dangerously close to a major accident.
Coach number 16 started to smoke, according to the channel report, which made passengers anxious and hastily exit in order to be safe.
After a two-hour delay, the train left with DS Railway Naser Khalili informing the media that the overheated axle defect had been fixed.
After the problem was resolved, the passengers were able to safely resume their journey despite the fear.
The PR representative stated that the train broke into two sections when the coupling between the carriages abruptly broke during a track change close to Kotri station. Fortunately, the crash did not injure any of the passengers.
Due to the event, traffic between Hyderabad and Karachi was momentarily stopped, which created delays. In the meantime, a rescue effort has been started by the authorities so that rail travel can resume.
PR’s Federal Government Inspector of Railways (FGIR) and other senior officials were deemed accountable for the situation by Train Drivers Association Chair Shams Pervaiz, saying, “We off and on bring the situation of the track, faulty signalling system and other issue into the notice of the authorities.”
However, as soon as the FGIR deems the lines suitable for rail operation following an inspection, we have to operate the train.
For this reason, he explained, train drivers and their helpers independently lower train speeds when approaching signals and at weak points in the track. The union has also given the rail authorities until August 15th to address these problems.
“The crew of the Zakaria Express, which derailed at Kotri, was able to avert a tragedy by reducing speed to 15 km/h thanks to our precautionary measures,” asserted Pervaiz.
