Karachi Authorities Take Notice of Stray Dogs in Landside Area
The issue of stray dogs in the landside area of Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) Karachi has been taken seriously.
A video in media reports seems to be from the past, but the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is taking the issue very seriously.
The airport is spread over 3,700 acres, and the landside area, unlike the airside, is an open zone surrounded by densely populated areas. These areas include restaurants and other structures that often attract stray dogs from the vicinity.
The PAA has been organizing regular cleaning of garbage pits/garbage dumps under its jurisdiction, but despite this, the presence of stray dogs in the nearby areas remains a challenge.
The airside, where the main flight operations take place, is fully secured and under 24/7 surveillance with strong fencing to prevent any possible infiltration.
Regarding the issue of stray dogs, PAA has also approached the Edhi Foundation and has written to the local administration to intensify its efforts to keep stray dogs away from the airport premises.
The local administration has responded positively, and PAA is ready to provide any assistance. These joint efforts are ongoing and require sustained action.
The higher authorities have directed that the airport administration further improve the measures, including finding innovative solutions and ensuring cooperation with all stakeholders so that the problem is brought under control as much as possible.
PAA is working closely with the concerned district authorities to reduce the increasing number of stray dogs in the surrounding areas.
Although the provincial law prohibits killing stray dogs, which leads to an increase in their numbers, PAA is committed to finding effective solutions within the legal framework.
The Pakistan Airports Authority reiterates its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards at all its construction sites.
