Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the United States is closely monitoring the ongoing protests in Iran and is prepared to assist Iranian protesters if necessary.
In a statement on social media, President Trump said Iran is moving toward freedom, a situation never seen before. He noted that the Iranian people have suffered under government oppression for many years, and now a reaction is emerging.
Trump clarified that any U.S. intervention does not mean deploying troops in Iran, but steps may be taken if protesters are killed. He also mentioned that protesters have gained control in some Iranian cities, while government authority appears weakened.
Meanwhile, anti-government protests in Iran have entered their 13th day. Reports indicate that 65 civilians and 15 security personnel have been killed in violent incidents. Iranian media reported that security forces arrested 100 armed individuals near a town close to Tehran, and over 2,500 people have been detained nationwide.
Officials also stated that internet services remain shut for the third consecutive day, severely affecting information flow across the country.
