India Launches Its Heaviest Satellite Into Space

New Delhi: India’s space agency successfully launched its heaviest satellite to date into orbit on Wednesday. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the successful launch a “proud milestone” in India’s space journey.

The satellite, weighing 6,100 kilograms, was launched from India and is the heaviest payload ever sent from Indian soil.

The satellite was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra Pradesh. According to the space agency, this rocket will also be used for future missions, including human spaceflight.

Prime Minister Modi said the launch strengthens India’s heavy-lift launch capability and highlights India’s growing role in the global satellite launch market.

Earlier this year, another communication satellite weighing 4,410 kilograms was launched, but this new satellite is significantly heavier.

Over the past decade, India has completed major space missions at low cost, competing with the world’s leading space powers. India has announced plans to achieve human spaceflight by 2027 and to send a human to the moon by 2040.
