IMF Mission Arrives in Pakistan for Key Talks

Islamabad: A five-member IMF delegation has reached Pakistan for an economic review before the next installment of one billion dollars under the $7 billion bailout package approved for Pakistan.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the IMF mission will stay in Pakistan under the leadership of Nathan Porter until March 15. During this time, technical negotiations will be held first, after which discussions will be held with Pakistani officials at the policy level.

Upcoming budget and policy negotiations

According to sources, the IMF delegation will present recommendations for the budget for the next fiscal year. While any possible relief for the salaried class will depend on the IMF’s approval.

. The IMF mission will also meet officials of other economic institutions including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Planning and State Bank of Pakistan.

Negotiations with relevant institutions

The delegation will also hold negotiations with the FBR, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and other relevant ministries and institutions.
