IBA Sukkur Proposes MDCAT Date

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Sukkur has proposed December 1 as the date for conducting the Medical & Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT), as recommended to the Sindh Health Department. This step follows ongoing preparations and the engagement of specialists tasked with creating a comprehensive database of examination questions.

In a report submitted to the Sindh High Court, the health department, represented by the provincial advocate general, detailed the arrangements made with IBA Sukkur and the extended timeline for holding the MDCAT. This report outlines the collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring a smooth and timely examination process, meeting the requirements of students aspiring to enroll in medical and dental colleges.

The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has designated Imdad Khushak, its Controller of Examinations, as the focal person for overseeing the MDCAT. Additionally, the Sindh Health Department has appointed Deputy Health Secretary Zohaib Hasan Sheikh to play a crucial role in coordinating the examination.

One of the key points raised by IBA Sukkur involves a proposed change in the exam format. The institute has formally approached the PMDC with a request to revise the number of answer options provided for the multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Typically, exams administered by IBA Sukkur feature four answer choices for each MCQ. This differs from the current practice in the MDCAT conducted by Dow University of Health Sciences and other provinces, where candidates receive five answer options per question. The proposed format change seeks to align the MDCAT structure with IBA Sukkur’s established approach, potentially simplifying the examination format.

This suggested revision aims to maintain consistency across various examinations overseen by IBA Sukkur, ensuring that candidates experience a familiar testing structure. The institute argues that providing four answer choices could lead to greater clarity and efficiency in answering questions, which may enhance the test-taking experience for students. This request for a format adjustment highlights IBA Sukkur’s focus on delivering a standardized examination process that aligns with their proven methodologies.
