Huge Salary Increase for Vice Chancellor Approved by HEC

The vice chancellors’ pay increases have been formally approved by the Federal Higher Education Commission. At the commission’s 43rd meeting, which was presided over by Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, this was accepted.

The HEC group determined that the low pay of vice chancellors at institutions across the nation needed to be raised and made more consistent. The meeting resolved that the vice-chancellor’s pay should be increased to one million rupees, matching the income of a tenure-track professor with all benefits, including the VC’s allowance.

The Transnational Policy 2024 was also agreed at the meeting. According to this policy, admissions to 35 Pakistani universities and colleges that are associated with foreign universities will not be permitted unless a new NOC is obtained.

According to a commission member, 35 Pakistani universities that offer degree programs both online and in person through partnerships with foreign universities are now required to obtain a new NOC, and this need only applies to universities that rank among the top 700 globally. They plan to regularly open their campus, but before they can begin accepting applications, they must first obtain their national operating certificate from their home country and then another from Pakistan.

The meeting came to the conclusion that pay for vice-chancellors nationwide needed to be raised and standardized since they were too low. The new pay, which includes all allowances, will be equivalent to that of a tenure-track professor at Rs. 1 million.

Furthermore, the transnational policy 2024 was agreed at the meeting. According to this guideline, in order to admit students, 35 Pakistani universities and colleges connected to foreign universities must get a fresh no-objection certificate (noc).

Before opening admissions, these institutions need to form partnerships with universities that are in the top 700 in the world, receive a non-opinion poll from their home country, and then obtain a non-opinion poll from Pakistan.
