How did the ceasefire between Iran and Israel happen?
Washington/Doha: After the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, a ceasefire has finally been agreed upon, which was driven by significant diplomatic efforts by the US and Qatar.
According to senior White House officials, US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff made direct and indirect contacts with the Iranian leadership. These contacts aimed to remove both sides from the conflict and lead them towards peace.
According to US sources, Israel had made it clear that it was ready for a ceasefire if Iran did not attack again.
Iran also indicated to the US that it would not attack again, after which the talks entered the final stages.
President Trump called this development “a wonderful day for the world.” He stated that this ceasefire is for an indefinite period, and it is hoped that it will serve as the basis for a lasting peace. He spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on the phone and settled the details.
On the other hand, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, contacted Iranian officials directly and persuaded them to agree to a ceasefire.
Earlier, the US President had informed the Emir of Qatar about the situation and requested him to please Iran.
According to Reuters, these diplomatic efforts had been underway behind the scenes for several days, and now the hope of a lasting peace has brightened.
