Hill Torrents In Balochistan, Southwestern Punjab At Risk Of Flash Floods: NDMA

Due to heavy monsoon rains, Pakistani authorities have issued flood alerts in some parts of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan.

At least 30 people have been killed this week due to torrential rains in Pakistan.

NDMA has issued a flood alert for the Dera Ghazi Khan division of Punjab, Zhob, Sibi, Nasirabad, and Kalat of Balochistan, and the Larkana and Hyderabad divisions of Sindh.

According to the NDMA spokesperson, there is a fear of urban flooding in some areas of Punjab and Sindh in the next 24 to 48 hours.

During the next 24 hours, there is a possibility of thundershowers in the southern and northeastern regions of Punjab.

Rain and thundershowers are likely to occur in the northeastern regions of Sindh during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Heavy rain is expected in Mithi, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Jamshoro, Umarkot, Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana.

Rain is likely in the Potohar region, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Sahiwal. Heavy rains are expected in Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and surrounding areas.

Rainfall in the above-mentioned areas can lead to waterlogging and urban flooding. Due to the danger, the population of two or four areas stayed away from the flood water and away from the flood-affected areas.

According to NDMA, ‘moderate to high level floods are expected till Monday. Instructions have been issued to all concerned departments to take necessary precautions to mitigate the possible effects of floods and severe weather.

It should be noted that the Pakistan Meteorological Department says that due to heavy rains from the 2nd to the 5th of August, there is a possibility of inundation of low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad.

Similarly, low-lying areas of Multan, Sahiwal, Nowshera, and Peshawar are feared to be submerged, while low-lying areas of Sindh are also expected to be submerged on August 4 and 5.

Rains are expected to continue with more intensity across the country and the monsoon rains will continue till August 6.

From 2nd to 6th August, rain and thundershowers are expected at most places over Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Leh. During this time, there may be heavy rain in some places.

Heavy rain may occur at some places in Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Panjgur, Kech, Kalat, Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Barkhan, Musa Khel in Balochistan from August 2 to 6.

Similarly, the coastal areas of Mastung, Sabi, Sherani, Kohlu, Bolan, Harnai, Naseerabad, Jafarabad, and Makran are likely to experience intermittent rain with strong winds and thundershowers. Heavy rain is also expected in some places during this time.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, the forecast will remain partly cloudy from August 3 to August 6, however, rain with strong winds is also expected in Diamer, Astor, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar.
