Govt Renegotiating IPP Contracts To Cut Electricity Prices: Energy Minister

Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari has said that the government is negotiating with IPPs to revise the contracts to reduce electricity prices.

While interviewing a news organization, Owais Leghari said that Pakistan’s current electricity price system is unsustainable.

He said that the power producers and the government understand that the current situation cannot be sustained, and all stakeholders have to provide concessions soon without significant business compromises.

He says that the current electricity rate is harming the country’s development.

Owais Leghari denied sending any new contract draft or specific terms to the power companies, saying the government will not force the IPPs for a new contract but changes in the contract will be by mutual consent.
