Government Imposes Ban on Gifts for High-Ranking Officials
The federal government has decided that gifts will not be accepted for high-ranking officials from any country.
A committee headed by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has prepared new recommendations related to the Toshakhana,
according to which government officials will be banned from accepting gifts during foreign visits. In this regard, the federal government will change the Toshakhana rules.
Khawaja Asif said that a ban on accepting gifts during foreign visits will be imposed soon to avoid disputes.
He further said that after the approval of the Prime Minister, a formal ban will be imposed on government officials from all countries on accepting gifts, and friendly countries will be requested not to give gifts even at the official level.
Khawaja Asif described the decision as a positive step and said that “neither gifts will be received nor disputes will arise”.
In addition, in January 2025, the federal government decided to review the Toshakhana Act 2024 to bring more transparency in the Toshakhana system, for which the Prime Minister had formed a committee headed by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif.
