Gazanian medical and dental students are now able to finish their courses in Pakistan thanks to permission from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC). Due to the difficult conditions in their home country, this Council resolution permits Gaza students to pursue their medical study in Pakistan on a humanitarian basis, guaranteeing that their studies would not be halted.
In response to the Pakistani High Commissioner’s request in London to modify Gazan students studying in Pakistan in light of the current circumstances, the PM&DC Council recently held a meeting and decided to act on the request. This was done to allow Gazan students to pursue their medical degrees in a stable and creative environment and to make a positive impact on the Gazan healthcare system.
The PM&DC rules and regulations did not contain any particular provisions from the Council regarding the clinical rotation of international students in Pakistan. However, the case was brought before the Council at the high commission’s request. The High Commission suggested that the students arrive in batches of 20–30, with a total expected enrollment of 100 students. These students will graduate from Gaza’s universities and, in a unique instance, be placed in clinical rotations at Pakistani medical colleges and associated teaching hospitals in the public sector after completing their clinical placement there.
The President of PM&DC and council members, along with the representatives of MOFA and NHSR&C, will form a committee to oversee the seamless integration of these students into the Pakistani medical school system in the appropriate years.
In his conversation with the President of PM&DC, he clarified that the Council wished to assist during this critical time. The provision of well-equipped learning environments, which may be absent in Gaza as a result of recurrent wars and budget limitations, will benefit Gazan pupils.
