Gaza Crisis: Pakistan Calls for OIC Summit in Brussels
An emergency Arab summit has been called for February 27 to discuss the situation in Gaza, while Pakistan has demanded an OIC meeting.
According to foreign media reports, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry has said that the decision to call the Arab summit was made after high-level consultations.
On the other hand, after US President Donald Trump’s statements on the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza, the Egyptian Foreign Minister has left for the United States, where he will meet with the US administration and members of the Senate.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the purpose of the Foreign Minister’s visit to the United States is to promote bilateral relations and strategic partnership, while the regional situation will also be discussed during the visit.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should be convened this week on the issue of Palestine.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan has requested a meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers to discuss the US President’s proposal to resettle Palestinians in other countries.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Syed Abbas Araqchi, in which both leaders focused on the situation in the Middle East.
The two sides also discussed the continuing plight of the Palestinians in Gaza. Ishaq Dar described the proposal to displace the people of Gaza as extremely disturbing and unjust.
The Foreign Minister clarified that the Palestinian land belongs to the Palestinian people, and the two-state solution is the only viable and fair option by the UN Security Council resolutions.
He said that Pakistan will continue to support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Foreign Minister also conveyed Pakistan’s support for convening an extraordinary meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers on the issue.
The two sides agreed to maintain close contact on these developments in the coming days. According to the Foreign Office, the Egyptian Foreign Minister also had a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar,
in which the situation in Gaza was discussed. It should be noted that in the past few days, US President Donald Trump announced that he would occupy Gaza, which had received strong reactions from around the world, while Islamic countries have also expressed their reactions.
