Gas Prices Hiked for Islamabad, Punjab, KPK
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has approved an increase in gas prices for consumers in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while making gas cheaper for consumers in Sindh and Balochistan.
In this regard, a summary of the change in gas prices has been sent to the federal government, after which a notification will be issued.
According to the details, OGRA has approved a gas price hike of Rs 116.90 per MMBTU for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).
Sui Northern is responsible for supplying gas to Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This increase in prices has been mainly due to the increasing cost of imported RLNG (Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas).
On the other hand, OGRA has recommended relief for consumers of Sindh and Balochistan who get gas through Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
Gas has been approved to be cheaper by Rs 103.95 per MMBTU for these provinces.
OGRA has formulated these proposals keeping in mind the possible fiscal deficit (shortfall) of the financial year 2025-26.
The organization has recommended to the federal government that rates be fixed according to different categories of consumers to ensure balance and transparency in prices.
OGRA says that some issues related to the gas management of Sui Northern are also being sent to the federal government so that comprehensive policy decisions can be taken.
