Foreign Secretary Muhammad Cyrus Sajjad Qazi has said that Pakistan is firmly committed to its relations with ASEAN and its member countries for regional peace, security, and cooperation.
ASEAN’s role in regional integration and prosperity is commendable.
According to a statement received from the Foreign Office, the Foreign Secretary led the Pakistani delegation to the 31st ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting held in Lao PDR on July 27.
Representing Pakistan in the meeting, he informed the participants about regional conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region from Pakistan’s point of view and emphasized the need for dialogue and engagement instead of factional politics.
Highlighting the plight of the people of Kashmir under the illegal occupation of India, he emphasized the need to resolve the conflict in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
The Foreign Secretary presented Pakistan’s position on regional issues including the situation in Gaza and Afghanistan.
On the occasion of the ASEAN Regional Forum, the Foreign Secretary also met with ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Dato’ Astana Abdul Aziz, China’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Wei Dong, and Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary General Dato’ Sri Imran Muhammad Zain.
