For the first time, the Security Council passed a resolution for the Gaza ceasefire, Israel is angry with the United States

The United Nations Security Council has approved a resolution for a cease-fire in Gaza. 14 countries of the 15-member Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, while the United States did not participate in the referendum. The resolution was adopted three days after a US resolution regarding the ceasefire in Gaza was rejected. In the US resolution, Hamas was also blamed for the war. However, the new resolution passed on Monday is different.

The new resolution was presented by the non-permanent members of the Security Council. The United States refrained from vetoing the resolution, which Israel is furious about, and a delegation from the Netanyahu government canceled a visit to the White House. Before the resolution was approved, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu called on the US to veto the resolution. However, the United States refrained from doing so, thanks to which the resolution was passed.

According to Al Jazeera TV, the resolution called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan, which would later lead to a permanent ceasefire. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on social media platform X that the resolution must be implemented, failure would be unforgivable. The US envoy to the United Nations, Linda Thompson, called on Hamas to accept the “deal”. The spokesman said. The United States did not agree with everything in the resolution, so it did not participate in the referendum.

The non-permanent members of the Security Council who submitted the resolution included Algeria, Guyana, Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, South Korea and Switzerland are included. The UN resolution calls for both a ceasefire and the release of Israeli prisoners.

All hostages should be released unconditionally and immediately and be given access to meet their medical and humanitarian needs. All parties should implement international law regarding their detainees. General Antonio Guterres has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, adding that “failure will be unforgivable”.
