FM Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh Visited the Korangi Fisheries Harbor Authority

During his visit to the Korangi Fisheries Harbor Authority (KFHA), the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, instructed the authority to take steps in order to increase its revenue and become a more functional organization. The Managing Director of KFHA, Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed, greeted the Federal Minister upon his arrival and briefed him on the current, proposed, and future projects of the authority.

The Federal Minister was informed that floating piers will be imported to expand the jetty, which will increase the revenue of the authority. To ensure easy access to the jetty, a floating pier is required. The auction hall will also be built according to international standards. Moreover, the KFHA has leased 24 acres of its land for 30 years to set up seafood factories. Plans have also been made to increase the income of the authority.

Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed said that a boundary wall will be constructed to make the authority more secure, and the provincial government will be contacted for the establishment of Rangers/Police pickets for this purpose. According to the existing laws, fishermen can go in the sea up to 12 nautical miles. Now, a license will be issued under which the fishermen will be permitted to go in the sea up to 200 nautical miles, and the same will be negotiated with the fishermen.

The Federal Minister expressed his assurance in forming a board for the Korangi Fisheries Harbor Authority soon. He asked the authority management to take concrete steps to generate more revenue and make the authority viable. Secretary Maritime Affairs Iram Anjum Khan and other officers were also present during the visit.
