Floods and Landslides Trap 50 in Ghizer

Landslides and floods wreaked havoc in the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan, leaving the entire population of Raushan village stranded and dozens of people trapped.

According to the district administration, a massive landslide occurred late at night on both sides of the Tali Das stream, completely blocking the Gilgit–Shandur road and suspending all traffic. As a result, surrounding villages have also been cut off.

Gilgit-Baltistan’s Interior Minister Shams Lone confirmed that the floods have severely affected the area, though fortunately, no casualties have been reported. He said reports of several people trapped in the village have emerged, and helicopters have been called in on an emergency basis for evacuation. Following orders from the Commander FCNA, a helicopter has already been dispatched.

Ghizer Police reported that nearly 50 people are stranded in Raushan village and have appealed to the government for immediate evacuation to a safe location.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ghizer stated that due to the landslide, the flow of the Ghizer River has been blocked since 3 a.m., causing water to accumulate and putting more settlements at risk of erosion and possible flooding. He added that timely warnings were issued to locals, which helped prevent any loss of life.
