The British newspaper Financial Times has described Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief, Syed Asim Munir, as one of the most effective strategic leaders to emerge in a rapidly changing global order.
According to an analysis published in the Financial Times, Field Marshal Asim Munir has adapted most successfully to the informal and fast-paced global approach of Donald Trump. The report stated that “first prize” for adjusting to President Trump’s diplomatic tempo goes to Pakistan’s Field Marshal.
The newspaper described Field Marshal Asim Munir as a model “middle power multi-aligner,” highlighting his ability to balance relations by moving diplomatically between Washington and Beijing, and from Riyadh to Tehran.
The report contrasted Pakistan’s approach with India’s experience, noting that New Delhi struggled to adapt to the evolving global environment and Trump’s unconventional diplomatic style. According to the FT, the middle-power strategy proved more challenging for India than it had anticipated.
The analysis further noted that Pakistan’s global standing has improved significantly, with the country emerging as a key player in President Trump’s evolving South Asia policy by the end of 2025.
