ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved a proposal aimed at boosting imports through Gwadar port by 50%. The decision, presented by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, directs all government departments to channel 50% of key imports, such as wheat, sugar, and fertiliser, via Gwadar port.
A cabinet subcommittee will be formed to monitor the import and export activities at Gwadar, providing quarterly reports. The initiative aligns with the prime minister’s directive issued in August, focusing on enhancing Gwadar port’s operations to promote the development and prosperity of Balochistan.
Federal Maritime Minister Qaisar Ahmed Sheikh emphasized that the move will improve Gwadar’s operational capacity and generate local employment opportunities.
