Fear of Asia Cup Cancellation This Year Due to India’s Stubbornness
There are growing concerns that the Asia Cup scheduled for this year may not take place due to India’s obstinate stance.
According to Indian media, after the Champions Trophy, India is now opposing the Asia Cup as well. Following heightened tensions with Pakistan, India has decided not to participate in both the Men’s Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup.
The Men’s Asia Cup is scheduled for September, while the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup is set for June in Sri Lanka.
Indian media sources quoted a BCCI official saying that the President of the Asian Cricket Council is PCB’s Mohsin Naqvi, and the Indian team cannot play in a tournament led by Pakistan.
BCCI has verbally informed the Asian Cricket Council about its withdrawal from the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup and has also put other scheduled events on hold. The board stated it is in continuous contact with the government on the matter.
However, sources claim that BCCI has not yet formally notified the Asian Cricket Council about its withdrawal.
