Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, during his visit to Islamabad, said that the proposed International Stabilization Force (ISF) for Gaza should be limited to monitoring the ceasefire and securing Gaza’s borders.
He urged Pakistan to play a more prominent role in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Gaza.
In an exclusive interview with a private news website, he clarified that the ISF’s mandate is not to enforce peace but to ensure the continuation of the existing ceasefire.
He added that details regarding the ISF’s mandate, deployment, and troop contributions are still under consultation with global partners, especially the United States.
The Egyptian foreign minister revealed that Egypt will soon host an international conference on Gaza’s reconstruction, and expects Pakistan to contribute not only financially but also through its private sector, technical support, and medical services.
He highlighted that Gaza currently has nearly 50,000 patients in urgent need of medical assistance.
Badr Abdelatty further said that both Pakistan and Egypt agree that the only path to lasting regional peace is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He also emphasized the need for political solutions and de-escalation in conflicts involving Sudan, Iran, and other regional crises.
Regarding bilateral ties, he called for enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, technology transfer, and defence, stressing that the trade volume between the two countries should be doubled.
