The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decided to award its officers and employees with a bonus of three months’ basic. However, employees who are under departmental investigations or have taken their cases to services tribunals or the judicial system will not be eligible for the bonus, according to an official document. The ECP already granted its employees two salary bonuses in March after the general elections in February.
According to the finance ministry rules, no institution can provide more than five bonuses to its staff in a single fiscal. After the general elections on February 8, CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja commended the staff, law enforcement agencies, and local administration for the peaceful conduct of the polls and the smooth transfer of powers from caretakers to the elected government. However, there were accusations of rigging during the process. Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha, who has resigned, admitted to being involved in rigging the Pakistan general elections in 2024. He confessed to what he called a “hideous crime” and accused not only himself but also the Election Commission of Pakistan and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of being complicit in the rigging, a claim refuted by the ECP and the CJP.
