E-Challan System Active In Karachi

Karachi:Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Karachi, Peer Muhammad Shah, announced that more than 6,500 e-challans have been issued across the city over the past two days as part of a major crackdown on traffic violations. According to the DIG, each vehicle has been fined separately, making it difficult to estimate the total amount collected so far. He noted that fines for motorcycles can reach up to Rs 5,000, while larger vehicles may be fined up to Rs 20,000. In certain serious cases, e-challans may go as high as Rs 100,000. Peer Muhammad Shah stated that a strict campaign has been launched against vehicles without number plates or those using fake registration plates, and FIRs will be registered against offenders. He added that vehicles will not be released until their number plates are verified or updated. The DIG emphasized that vehicle sellers must complete all legal transfer formalities. Those who have already sold their vehicles should contact the Excise Department and provide their CNIC copies to ensure their data is updated in the system. He said e-challans are being issued for violations such as running red lights, not wearing seat belts, overspeeding, wrong-way driving, using mobile phones while driving, and motorcyclists not using the left lane. Currently, tickets are being issued for 8 to 10 types of violations. According to Peer Muhammad Shah, 1,076 cameras are operational across Karachi, and this number will soon increase to 12,000. Additionally, 10,000 tracking devices are being integrated into the system. Most violations are being recorded on Shahrah-e-Faisal, Baloch Colony, Fozia Wahab Flyover, and Drigh Road. For public convenience, 11 traffic facilitation centers are operational in the city, where citizens can register complaints and resolve issues. The DIG revealed that the new e-challan system will be implemented across Sindh within one month. Over 100 trained young professionals have already been deployed to operate the system. Peer Muhammad Shah emphasized that the objective of the e-challan system is to encourage safe, lawful, and disciplined driving among citizens. He expressed confidence that this digital initiative will significantly improve traffic management across Sindh in the coming months.
