Distribution of Bicycles to Female Students in Tharparkar

Eighty bicycles were given to eligible female students at Government High School Malanhore Veena by Thar Education Alliance, in partnership with Indigo Textile, UNDP (SDG Unit), and the District Education Department Tharparkar. The students’ transportation difficulties prevented the girls from attending

Attendees at the event included members of the local community, activists, journalists, civil society, and district education, among other backgrounds. Speaking at the function, the CEO of Thar Education Alliance voiced worries about the situation in which more than 0.3 million children in Thar are not enrolled in school.

He emphasized that a multitude of factors, including schools being distant from communities, contribute to the disproportionately high proportion of female pupils in many places. Giving these 80 worthy female students bicycles is more than simply a trial project; it’s a calculated action to address these issues. By doing this, the program hopes to guarantee regular attendance in schools while simultaneously shattering social taboos.

Why Tharparkar has Low Female Litracy Rate?

The Tharparkar district faces challenges related to low female literacy rates across the nation, which are made worse by factors including transportation distances to schools, cultural differences, and safety worries. He stated.

Shivani went on to say that the Thar Education Alliance (TEA) and Indigo Textile have joined forces in a cooperative effort to address this urgent issue since they recognize how urgent the situation is. This cooperation seeks to dismantle obstacles and open the door for girls in Tharparkar to have unrestricted access to education via a common commitment to social development and a profound knowledge of the transforming power of education. They set out to empower girls and promote a learning culture in the center of Tharparkar through the “Pedaling towards Education” project.

Assistant Commissioner Mithi, Riaz Ali Shaikh, emphasized that one major problem facing Tharparkar is the issue of out-of-school children. On the other hand, the government is aggressively tackling this problem with reforms and initiatives. He praised the Thar Education Alliance’s work and emphasized that it is a step in the right direction toward accomplishing SDG 4.

What Krishan Sharma Said?

Development industry expert Krishan Sharma stressed that girls who are empowered become independent and participate in decision-making. This program targets retention concerns as well as enrollment, especially for post-primary girls.

District Education Officer Narsingh Bheel took part in the activities, as did DSP Waqas Durani, Sushil Malani, HM Satram Das, Ex-HM Ramchand Shivani, and other community members. They acknowledged the significance of giving bicycles to female students from five different schools in Malanhore Veena and voiced their support for the effort.

The female pupils who received the bicycles thanked the teachers and said that being able to ride a bike gave them confidence and a sense of empowerment. They promised to put their all into finishing their education. The community also stressed the importance of providing girls who commute from distant locations with transportation.
