Shaza Fatima Khawaja while addressing the gathering as a Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication said that work had been initiated to make the country digital. She also singled out that the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication in promoting the Digital Pakistan Vision the economy, governance, and society are getting digitized.
The minister said these during the launch of the ‘Country Digital Ecosystem Diagnostic Report’ on Monday. The event was co-hosted by the Institute of Sustainable Development Policy and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Shaza Fatima pointed out that technology plays a significant role in the country’s growth and said that the Digital Pakistan Policy is already setting the direction of moving digital information to the next phase. She further said that digital access is one of the agendas and the government will ensure to close the digital gap between the rural and urban regions.
Shaza Fatima also said that there is a process of digitalization and development of infrastructure in the country. She emphasized that it was the IT sector that contributed completely to the economic development of the country and pointed out the strong measures being undertaken under the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to enhance Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
She observed that Pakistan’s IT exports have risen to 3. 223 billion dollars and also informed that the IT industry is fully backed through the Pakistan Software Export Board PSEB. Shaza Fatima concurred that the Country Digital Ecosystem Diagnostic Report serves as a key reference tool in the continuous process of evaluating Pakistan’s readiness and prospects in the digital era.
