Cricket Returns To The Olympics After 128 Years

Good news for cricket fans! After more than a century, cricket has finally been made a part of the Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has formally approved the inclusion of men’s and women’s cricket competitions in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028.

Under this historic decision, 6 teams of men and 6 women will take to the field in the T20 format, and each country will be able to nominate a 15-member squad.

This will be a new chapter in the history of cricket, as the last time a single cricket match was played in the Paris Olympics in 1900—that too between Great Britain and France.

But now that the field is decorated again, only the top 6 teams will be able to be part of the Olympics. This moment is also a serious challenge for Pakistan, as the men’s team is currently in seventh position and the women’s team is in eighth position.

India, New Zealand and other big teams can easily qualify due to their strong position, while Pakistan will have to join the race to improve its ranking.

It is not yet clear where the cricket matches will be held in Los Angeles, and the full schedule will also be released closer to the time.

However, this return of cricket is clear evidence that the sport is rapidly gaining popularity globally.

It should be remembered that men’s cricket has been included in the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and women’s cricket in the Birmingham Games in 2022. Cricket has also been present in the Asian Games in 2010, 2014 and 2023.
