Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the 2025 Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships, applicants must:- Citizenship: Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
- Residency: Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Academic Qualifications: Hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honors standard or a lower second-class degree plus a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree) by September 2025.
- Start of Study: Be available to start academic studies in the UK by September 2025.
- Financial Need: Be unable to afford to study in the UK without the scholarship.
- Supporting Documentation: Provide all required supporting documentation in the correct format.
Financial Support
The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship provides the following financial benefits:- Airfare: Approved airfare from the scholar’s home country to the UK and return at the end of the award.
- Tuition Fees: Full tuition fees are covered by the scholarship.
- Living Stipend: £1,378 per month, or £1,690 for those in the London metropolitan area.
- Warm Clothing Allowance: If applicable, a special allowance will be provided.
- Study Travel Grant: Towards study-related travel within the UK or overseas.
- Child Allowance: £590 per month for the first child and £146 per month for each additional child under 16, provided the children live with the scholar in the UK.
Application Process
The application process involves two steps:- Nomination: Applicants must apply through an official nominator, such as a national nominating agency or recognized charitable body. The nominator will handle the selection process.
- Online Application: After receiving a nomination, applicants must submit their application via the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) online portal.
- The nominator’s deadline may differ, so applicants should check with their nominator for specific dates.
- Nominators will submit their nominations to the CSC by December 2024.
- Applicants will be informed of the results in July 2025.
Required Documentation
Applicants must upload the following documents to the CSC online application system:- Proof of Citizenship or Refugee Status: A valid passport or national ID card with a photo, date of birth, and country of citizenship.
- Transcripts: Full transcripts of all higher education qualifications, including up-to-date transcripts for any current courses. Certified translations are required if the transcripts are not in English.
Application Deadline
- The application deadline for 2025/26 Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships is early December 2024.
- Nominations will be submitted by December 2024, and applicants will be notified by July 2025.
