At the Army Auditorium General Headquarters (GHQ), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir hosted a ceremony to honor Olympian Arshad Nadeem’s historic achievement. A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday that in the final competition of the Paris Olympics 2024, Nadeem made a massive javelin throw of 92.97 meters, securing Pakistan’s first-ever individual gold medal in the Olympics. This was the first gold in any discipline for Pakistan in the last 40 years. Nadeem received widespread praise and admiration from across the country for his remarkable accomplishment in the Olympics.
“The event was attended by various sports teams and legendary Olympians, including the 1984 Olympic and National Hockey Teams, the National Cricket Team, the Street Football Team, the Army Polo Team, the Visually Impaired Cricket Team, the Women’s Goal Ball Team, as well as medal winners of the Commonwealth, SAF, and Asian Games. Participants of the Paris Olympics 2024 were also present,” stated the ISPR.
Notable legends in attendance included Jehangir Khan, Isalah Ud Din, Shahbaz Senior, Sohail Abbas, Muhammad Asif, and Aisam-ul-Haq. The event was also attended by Arshad Nadeem’s close relatives, associates, and coaches. “The COAS appreciated Arshad Nadeem’s remarkable achievement of winning Pakistan’s first-ever gold medal in a singles event and setting a new Olympic record. He attributed it to Arshad’s commitment, perseverance, and passion for excellence. The COAS highlighted Arshad’s inspirational journey from humble beginnings to achieving greatness, emphasizing the importance of hard work and determination,” added the ISPR.
