China Expands Borders in Ladakh

Another blow to India, China has annexed important parts of Ladakh.

China has announced the establishment of two new counties by including parts of Ladakh in Hotan Prefecture.

The Modi government is in a tizzy and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs also registered a protest against Beijing on Friday.

China has expanded its borders in the disputed region of Ladakh and established two new counties in Hotan Prefecture.

According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, Heian County and Hekang County were established after the approval of the Chinese Communist Party and the State Council.

A large part of Aksai Chin has been included in these counties, which India claims as its territory.

The Indian government has strongly objected to the development and has registered a protest against Beijing.

According to Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaswal, ‘Some parts of the two new counties in Hotan Prefecture fall within Ladakh.

This move by China comes at a time when border talks between the two countries have resumed.

A Chinese defense spokesman had said in December 2024 that China is ready for joint efforts to maintain peace in the border areas.

However, this new announcement has further increased tensions with India. According to defense experts, this move by China will further increase India’s problems.

Defense experts say that India’s outcry is a response to the setback to its dream of hegemony in the region.

According to experts, China never takes a step in which it has any kind of doubt or suspicion and after this development, tensions in the region may increase further.
