Ceasefire Stays Until Violated, Say Security Sources

Islamabad: Security sources have taken a categorical stand on the confusion created by some Indian statements on the ceasefire announcement after the recent tension between Pakistan and India.

Yesterday, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said in the Senate meeting that contacts were held between top officials of the Pakistani and Indian armies on Wednesday and Thursday, in which it was agreed to extend the ceasefire agreement until May 18 (Sunday).

After this statement, questions began to arise on social media and in the public sphere as to whether this ceasefire is only for a specific period or on a long-term basis?

Clarifying this confusion, security sources have said that the ceasefire is not limited to a specific date but, in principle, remains effective until either side violates it.

The sources further said that if the ceasefire is violated by India, Pakistan has the ability and intention to give a full and effective response as always.

It should be noted that after Indian authorities declared the ceasefire as ‘temporary’, there was ongoing discussion in Pakistan about the duration and future prospects of the agreement, however, the security agencies have clarified their policy in this regard.
