Bridge Collapses at Khanewal Station, Railway Worker Killed
Khanewal: A tragic incident took place at Khanewal Junction railway station, where a part of a passenger bridge suddenly collapsed, killing a railway employee and seriously injuring a woman.
Rescue teams immediately carried out rescue operations after the accident, and the injured woman was immediately shifted to the hospital.
According to a spokesperson for Pakistan Railways, the clearance process at the accident site has been completed, and train movement is continuing as usual.
According to railway officials, the reconstruction work of the bridge will start from today itself to avoid any untoward incident in the future.
Taking notice of the incident, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has immediately suspended three senior officers, including Divisional Engineer Abid Razaq (Grade 18), Assistant Engineer Raja Yousaf (Grade 17), and Inspector Bridge Muhammad Adil (Grade 16).
The Railway Minister expressed regret over the incident and said that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
He has also formed an inquiry committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, which will include the CEO of Railways, IG of Railways, and DS Lahore.
