Brake Failure Take Two Lives in Dukki

Due to brake failure, a truck carrying coal toppled and plummeted down a gully, killing two drivers in a sad accident close to the Manday Tuck area of Dukki. Both drivers, who were actually brothers, passed away immediately from their wounds, according to SHO Humayun Khan Nasir of the Dukki Police Station.

For additional treatment, the deceased’s bodies were taken to a nearby hospital. The drivers, who were identified as Samiullah Mirza and Sabir Khan, son of Mirza Khan, lived in Tehsil Zhob’s Tadin neighborhood.

A truck crashed into a ditch in Lakha Singhawala, Chahyian, on the outskirts of Mirpur city of AJK late Sunday, killing at least two people and injuring seven more, including two critically, according to authorities.

With nine people on board, the truck (LXP6205) headed for Gujranwala was traveling from Mirpur when it collided with a sharp bend, allegedly as a result of excessive speeding. After eight injured people were taken to Mirpur Division Teaching Hospital, one person passed away immediately and another died from severe injuries.

When contacted here on Monday, Rescue Officer Wajid Rasheed informed this correspondent that Rescue 1122 Mirpur had responded quickly, transferring eight injured people to DHQ Hospital Mirpur.

“At first, one person was missing, but Rescue 1122 used heavy machinery to recover Javed’s body from under the truck wreckage that had turned turtle in the ditch,” the rescue officer stated.

According to an official handout released here, the City DSP and 13 rescuers were part of the four-hour rescue and recovery effort, which was overseen by Assistant Director Rescue 1122 Mirpur.

Due to inadequate safety regulations, inadequate driver training, and frequently dilapidated transportation infrastructure, road accidents resulting in significant fatalities are frequent in Pakistan.

In January 2023, a passenger bus carrying containers of flammable oil crashed into a ravine in the province of Balochistan and caught fire, killing 41 passengers.

That August, a train crashed in the southern Sindh province, killing at least 30 people and injuring hundreds more.

In 2022, a speeding van drove off a narrow mountain road and fell into a ravine north of Quetta, Balochistan, killing at least 22 people, including women and children.
