BLA’s Simultaneous Attacks Foiled in Two Different Cities

A fresh wave of militancy has gripped Balochistan, with a series of violent incidents unfolding in and around the provincial capital, Quetta. On Saturday, two brothers were killed and nine others injured in a roadside bomb explosion in the Sara Ghurgai area, near Killi Mangal on the outskirts of Quetta. The blast occurred around 5 PM, after which rescue teams rushed the injured to the Civil Hospital Quetta. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. The banned militant group, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Two Brothers Killed in Quetta Bombing

Just a day earlier, on Friday, armed militants stormed the town of Surab, setting multiple government buildings ablaze and looting a bank before setting it on fire. Assistant Deputy Commissioner Hidayatullah Baloch lost his life in the attack.

Meanwhile, in Mastung district, militants attacked the Levies Police Station in the Wali Khan area. The assailants torched the building, destroyed vehicles, official records, and other property. They took control of the station and established checkpoints on the main Quetta-Karachi highway, conducting random checks on passing vehicles.

This marks the second major attack by the BLA within a 24-hour period. A day earlier, the group had seized control of Surab town for several hours, highlighting a growing challenge to state authority.

These incidents coincided with the visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir to Quetta, where they addressed a grand tribal jirga comprising elders and public representatives. In his speech, PM Shehbaz Sharif blamed India for the recent surge in terrorism in Balochistan, stating that “after being defeated on the battlefield, India is now using its agents to fuel unrest in the province.”

In a related development, the Interior Ministry has issued a notification reclassifying the militant activity in Balochistan as “rebellion,” signaling a possible intensification in the state’s response to the insurgency.
