In a major development, overseas Pakistanis can now transfer vehicle ownership easily through online biometric verification, eliminating the need for lengthy embassy procedures.
The Excise and Taxation Department in Islamabad has introduced a new digital facility that allows overseas Pakistanis to verify their identity using the Pak-ID mobile app, developed by NADRA, and complete the vehicle transfer process online from anywhere in the world.
Previous Complications
According to Director Excise Islamabad, Bilal Azam, previously, overseas Pakistanis had to visit the Pakistani embassy for biometric verification after selling their vehicles. The documents then required attestation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan — a time-consuming and tedious process.
This often caused significant delays and inconvenience for both buyers and sellers.
New Digital Process — Faster and Easier
Now, the entire system has been digitized. Overseas Pakistanis can simply use the Pak-ID mobile application to provide fingerprint verification and confirm ownership transfer from the comfort of their homes.
Vehicle buyers in Pakistan are also advised to ensure they have the seller’s biometrically verified transfer letter before completing the purchase to avoid any future issues.
Benefits of the New System
The Islamabad Excise initiative will:
Save both time and money for overseas Pakistanis.
Make the car transfer process transparent and efficient.
Help overseas Pakistanis secure fair market value for their vehicles instead of selling them at lower prices due to procedural hurdles.
This step marks a significant move toward digital governance and reflects the government’s efforts to simplify public services for overseas citizens.
