Syrian Rebels Enter Damascus, President Bashar Al-Assad Flees
Foreign media have claimed that Syrian rebels have entered the capital and have been seen in the Harza area of Damascus.
Despite heavy clashes with government forces, the Syrian rebels continue to advance and, according to reports, have captured four major cities of Daraa, Quneitra, Sweida, and Homs in the last 24 hours.
Syrian rebels who entered Homs have released hundreds of prisoners from prison.
After the army withdrew from the central city, thousands of Homs residents took to the streets and chanted “Assad is gone, Homs is free” and “Long live Syria.”
US officials say there are reports that Bashar al-Assad has left the country, while the presidential palace has denied this.
Syrian rebels toppled a statue of former President Hafez al-Assad in the outskirts of Damascus. Protesters also chanted slogans against Bashar al-Assad.
According to foreign news agencies, Syrian soldiers continue to flee Iraq.
