Balochistan Shuts Down: Protests Rage, Internet Suspended

The head of the Baloch Solidarity Committee, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, has announced a shutter down and wheel jam strike across the province today.

Dr. Mahrang Baloch said in his video message that ‘today, as a result of direct firing by the security forces of the state of Pakistan on peaceful protesters in Quetta, three peaceful protesters have been killed and dozens have been injured so far.’

On the other hand, the spokesperson of the Balochistan government said that ‘the police took action against the protestors by the law,

The protesters pelted stones and tortured the police and during this, ‘ten injured people including a lady police constable and police personnel were brought to the hospital.’

After the internet, mobile phone service was also suspended in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, which has caused people to face problems and difficulties.

It should be remembered that the Baloch Solidarity Committee had been staging a sit-in in front of Balochistan University on Sariab Road since a day ago against the arrests of Baloch Solidarity leaders and the failure to hand over the bodies of the deceased to their families and take them for identification.

On the other hand, a protest rally was held by the families of the arrested Baloch people on Qambrani Road in Quetta.

Social activist Mahrang Baloch claims that ‘the sit-in was happening in front of the university when a heavy contingent of police arrived at 2 pm. They shelled and opened fire, resulting in the deaths of three people and the injuries of thirteen people.

Internet and mobile phone shutdowns and people’s problems

The shutdown of mobile phone service in Quetta began around 11:30 pm on Friday and Saturday, while on the other hand, internet service on mobile phones was suspended since 2 am on Thursday.

Although the government authorities did not give the reasons for the first shutdown of internet service on mobile phones and now the complete shutdown of mobile phone service

However, on Thursday, internet service on mobile phones was suspended shortly before the Baloch Solidarity Committee’s sit-in in front of the University of Balochistan.

People in Quetta city are facing severe problems due to the shutdown of mobile phone service.

It should be remembered that the Baloch Solidarity Committee announced this protest against the non-handover of the bodies of unknown persons killed in the alleged operation by security forces, the lathi-charge on the committee’s workers at the Civil Hospital, and their arrest.
