Balochistan Notifies Colleges and Universities of Their Summer Break

The summer break for colleges and universities in the province has been announced by the Secretary of Colleges and Higher Education of Balochistan. A notice released on Thursday states that Balochistani educational institutions will be shuttered from June 1, 2024, to August 13, 2024. The provincial government had previously declared that schools would be closed over the summer. In Balochistani districts that are prone to heat, summer vacation began on May 15 and ends on July 31. Colder climates will, however, have a 10-day break from July 22 to July 31.

The summer holiday schedule for 2024 has been announced by the government of Balochistan for all educational institutions in the province. The Balochistan Education Department released an announcement that lists the dates and times of the break periods for each zone.

Zone of Summer

The summer break in 2024 will last from June 1 to August 13, 2024, in the summer zone, which covers regions with extreme heat. The purpose of this decision is to protect staff and students’ health and safety during the hottest months.

Zone of Winter

In the winter zone, colleges and institutions will resume on August 1, 2024, after the summer holidays, which run from July 1 to July 31.

This plan maximizes comfort and productivity by matching educational activities to the local climate in each area.

Areas Affected by Heatwaves

Summer vacations in locations that experience heat waves and extremely high temperatures are planned from May 15 to July 31. The goal of this preventative action is to shield personnel and students from inclement weather. On August 1, 2024, educational activities in these areas will restart, facilitating a seamless return to regular schools. For those in cooler climates, a 10-day break has been set for July 22–31. This will offer some much-needed relief during this period.

Parental Issues

Parents still worry about fees being collected over the summer vacation, even after these announcements. The government has been pushed by many to step in and stop the schools from collecting fees while they remain closed.

Conversely, the Higher Education Department (HED) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also declared summer breaks for colleges and universities. KP HED declared that summer break will be enjoyed by educational institutions in the summer zones from June 15 to August 3. In addition, from July 1 to July 3, colleges and universities in the winter zones will be closed.
