Army Chief General Asim Munir Promoted To Field Marshal
Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has approved the promotion of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military) to the rank of Field Marshal in recognition of his brilliant strategy and bravery in the Battle of Haq and Operation Banyan Marsus.
This important decision was taken in a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which General Asim Munir’s unparalleled leadership was appreciated for protecting Pakistan’s security and delivering a historic defeat to the enemy.
The cabinet said that on May 6 and 7, 2025, India imposed an unprovoked war, in which innocent civilians, women and children were targeted, but the effective strategy of the Pakistan Army and the leadership of the Army Chief thwarted the enemy’s intentions.
The Prime Minister, taking President Asif Ali Zardari into confidence, also approved the extension of the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zahar Ahmed Babar Sidhu.
The federal cabinet decided that the officers, soldiers, ghazians, martyrs and other relevant personnel of the Pakistan Armed Forces who participated in Operation Banyan Marsus will be awarded high government awards.
