Ambassador Sadiq Khan Visits Kabul for High-Level Talks

Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq Khan, visited Kabul from March 21 to 23,

he met with Afghan Interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Commerce Minister Nooruddin Azizi, among other officials.

During the visit, relations between the two countries, trade and economic cooperation, security, corridors and regional ties were discussed.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen mutual relations and continue high-level contacts.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, during this visit, conducted on the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan also discussed the growing terrorism in Afghanistan, the activities of TTP and ISIS.

Pakistan raised the issue of the use of Afghan soil for terrorism with the Afghan leadership.

On the other hand, the Taliban government released 65-year-old American citizen George Glazeman in a recent meeting, who had been in Taliban custody for two years.

This development is being attributed to the diplomatic efforts of former US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, which is being seen by the Taliban as a goodwill gesture towards the US.

It remains to be seen what further diplomatic progress will be made between the Taliban and the US, but the release of the American citizen is being seen as a major diplomatic success.
