Islamabad, May 7, 2025 – Federal Minister for Petroleum, Mr. Ali Pervaiz Malik, held a meeting today in Islamabad with His Excellency Daniel Arsenault, Political and Trade Counsellor at the Canadian High Commission. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of clean energy, mineral exploration, and geological survey.
Minister Malik extended his congratulations to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on assuming office and expressed hope for continued positive engagement between both countries under his leadership.
During the meeting, Mr. Arsenault voiced Canada’s concern over the recent escalation between India and Pakistan. He emphasized the importance of restraint to avoid further destabilization in the region and highlighted Canada’s apprehension regarding military actions in densely populated areas. He called for calm and the pursuit of peaceful solutions.
In response, Minister Malik strongly condemned India’s attacks on civilian populations, terming them a gross violation of international law and humanitarian principles. He described the aggression as an expression of India’s frustration over its failure to protect its citizens. He noted that Pakistan had already offered a transparent investigation into the Pehalgam incident and stressed that any military response without evidence is unjustifiable. He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully prepared to defend the country.
The two sides also explored opportunities for collaboration in sustainable energy development. They acknowledged the significant potential for joint ventures in clean energy technologies, mineral exploration, and trade enhancement. Minister Malik invited Canadian firms to invest in Pakistan’s energy exploration sector, which holds promising prospects both onshore and offshore.
Mr. Arsenault highlighted potential partnerships under the Technical Assistance Partnership (TAP) project, particularly in cooperation between the Geological Survey of Pakistan and Canadian institutions. He also extended an invitation for Pakistan’s participation in the annual Global Energy Show held in Canada.
