ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made it clear that Pakistan’s patience has reached its limit, and the country was compelled to launch a retaliatory strike in response to terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan. He said that if the Afghan government is truly sincere, it should advance the ceasefire process in good faith, as Pakistan will not accept any temporary truce aimed merely at buying time.
Addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan and Afghanistan share a long border, which Pakistan has always safeguarded in the spirit of brotherhood. Unfortunately, Afghan soil has continued to be used for terrorism against Pakistan. He added that despite repeated attempts to engage with the Afghan government, peace was never prioritized.
He pointed out that when Pakistan came under attack, the Afghan Foreign Minister was in New Delhi — a fact that demonstrates Kabul’s leniency toward terrorist elements. Under the leadership of the Field Marshal, the Pakistan Armed Forces gave a strong and decisive response to the Khawarij, sending a clear message that Pakistan will never compromise on its national security.
The Prime Minister further said that Pakistan remains open to dialogue with the Afghan government, but only on fair and genuine terms. He added that during his meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh, the Emir of Qatar expressed deep concern over the situation and offered to mediate for a lasting ceasefire.
PM Shehbaz reiterated that Pakistan seeks the complete elimination of the Khawarij menace and hopes Afghanistan will not become a safe haven for terrorists. He reminded that Pakistan has hosted over four million Afghan refugees for decades, but the recent incidents have pushed the nation’s patience to its breaking point.
