A tragic bus accident in Iran’s Yazd province claimed the lives of at least 35 Pakistani pilgrims and left 23 others injured. The pilgrims, mostly from Sindh province, were en route to Iraq when the bus overturned, reportedly due to a brake failure. The critically injured have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured full support in repatriating the deceased and assisting the injured. He shared that embassy officials have been dispatched to Yazd, and emergency arrangements are being coordinated closely with Iranian authorities. The ambassador also acknowledged Iran’s cooperation during this difficult time.
President Asif Ali Zardari also conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expedite the repatriation of the bodies and ensure the injured receive necessary aid. The accident occurred during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, a significant religious event for Shia Muslims who travel to Iraq’s Karbala to observe the 40th day of mourning for Imam Hussain bin Ali (RA). The bus was carrying a total of 11 women and 17 men when it overturned, marking a somber day for the pilgrimage.
